The Biggest Takeaway Wasn’t on the Agenda

Recently, Pipeline360 had the pleasure of bringing together an incredible group of B2B marketing leaders for an evening of great conversation over dinner along Boston Harbor in Boston’s Seaport District.

Around the table were professionals from Partner Marketing, Product Marketing, Field Marketing, Demand Generation, and other cross functional marketing roles. While each of us came from different organizations, experiences, and perspectives, we all shared one common thread: a passion for technology marketing and a genuine desire to learn from one another.

I came into the evening with a plan. I had intended to moderate a discussion around some of the biggest trends, challenges, and opportunities facing B2B marketers today. But as often happens when you bring together smart, passionate people, the conversation took on a life of its own.

And honestly, I’m glad it did.

Rather than following a structured agenda, we found ourselves sharing stories, exchanging ideas, discussing challenges, celebrating successes, and learning from one another. The conversation was organic, engaging, and refreshingly authentic. More importantly, we got to know each other beyond our job titles and functions.

As I reflected on the evening afterward, something really stuck with me.

Today, most of us spend our days glued to screens. Whether we’re working from home or in the office, our calendars are packed with virtual meetings, emails, messages, and endless notifications. Technology has made it easier than ever to communicate, but not always to truly connect.

There’s something special that happens when you sit across the table from someone. Over a great meal and genuine conversation, barriers come down. Ideas flow more naturally. Relationships are built. Trust develops. You leave not only with new perspectives, but with new connections that continue long after the evening ends.

When I first sat down to write this post, I intended to recap the valuable insights and marketing takeaways from our roundtable discussion.

Instead, I realized the biggest takeaway wasn’t about marketing at all.

It was a reminder that human connection still matters, perhaps now more than ever.

As marketers, we spend so much time building meaningful experiences for our customers that we sometimes forget to invest in meaningful experiences with one another. Whether it’s over dinner, a cup of coffee, or a conversation after an industry event, taking the time to connect face to face is invaluable. These conversations spark new ideas, broaden our perspectives, challenge our thinking, and remind us that behind every campaign, every strategy, and every business are people.

That’s the real value of gatherings like this.

To everyone who joined us in Boston, thank you. I truly enjoyed our conversations and appreciated the opportunity to get to know each of you a little better. Your willingness to openly share your experiences, insights, and perspectives made the evening memorable, and I’m grateful you were part of it.

As we continue to embrace AI, automation, and digital transformation, let’s not lose sight of something equally important: making time for one another.

Because while technology helps us do our jobs, relationships are what move our industry forward.

I’m already looking forward to bringing more marketing leaders together in Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, Atlanta, London, and many other cities throughout 2026. I hope you’ll join us around the table.

Sometimes the most valuable takeaway isn’t what’s discussed on the agenda. It’s simply making the time to connect.
